General Elections in India are scheduled to be held in 2024 in which the ruling NDA, seeking a third consecutive term this time will take on opposition. Elections for the 17th Lok Sabha took place in 2019, marking a landslide victory for theĀ BJP-led NDA, who won 353 out of 543 seats. BJP on its own won a total of 303 seats, which was 31 more than the required number of seats for the majority, i.e., 272.

As per data of the Election Commission of India, the total electorate in the country as per finally published Electoral rolls with reference to 01.01.2024 as the qualifying date is 968.8 million compared to 896 million in 2019. This marks an increase of more than 72.8 million electors. Over 18.4 million electors are in 18-19 years age group. Electors in the age group of 18-19 years constitute 1.89% of total electors.
